Demon-In-The-Tower is a popular Aphrodisian card game played mainly by humans and dwarves but by cultural diffusion is also popular amongst elven traders and sailors.

Each player has a deck of cards with various characters on them that must be played in certain layouts, three rows and five columns. Players compete by building the best "castle" where the arrangement of the cards provide more or fewer points based on who is next to what. Other players can also use cards to force rearrangements of opponents' castles or reduce the cards in their hand. Some cards can be played face down, giving an element of bluffing for when an opponent chooses to rearrange an adversary's castle.

In order to score the most points, the one and only succubus card per deck needs to be in the middle-top row, and three demons must be in a row in the top or middle rows. Having the succubus out of place makes the player lose many points.

The round ends when the first player runs out of cards in their hand or the first castle is filled.

Character cards include:

The Succubus -- best placed beside the Emperor, blocks the Assassin and Merchant

The Emperor -- Worth the most points when placed in the top-center of the deck
Year 4613-4631 (18 years) - 1st ruler - Gius Libidine is elected the first king. By the end of his reign, humanity was able to stabilize itself and prosper, though he ultimately failed in his original mission to reopen the gate back to Earth.

Year 4631-4684 (53 years) - 2nd ruler - Tom Libidine, Gius' oldest child, takes the throne. Like his father, he was elected into the position, though by this time many humans were away and unavailable to vote, only learning of Gius' death months or years later. Tom abandoned his father's mission to find a way to reopen the gate in 4653, as by them a majority of the human population had been born in Aphrodisia and had no emotional connection to earth. Tom was remembered as a decent ruler but with a short temper.

Year 4684-4721 (37 years) 3rd ruler - Queen Sarai the Generous, granddaughter of Gius Libidine, relocates the human capitol across the continent to the east coast of Aphrodisia in 4700 due to the arid climate of Niu Heym struggling to keep up with the growing, now-thriving human population and the dwarven villages popping up nearby to benefit from trade.

4722-4728 (6 years) - 4th ruler -- King Chumley the Clever, youngest son of Queen Sarai the Generous. Chumley was third in line to the throne behind his two brothers, but both mysteriously went missing shortly before their coronation. Chumley was immediately suspected of foul play, but no evidence of foul play ever emerged, so he became king. Several years later, two women emerged claiming to be the missing brothers, and that they were tricked by Chumley into being transformed into their current bodies, but many accused them of trying to cheat their own way into power. King Chumley the Clever also built the secret treasure vaults and catacombs beneath Giusburg with demon help.

4728-4733 (5 years) - 5th ruler -- Queen Jani the Seeker, known for sending out expeditions to learn more about Aphrodisia.

The Libidine Dynasty is the line of human kings and queens descending from expedition leader Gius Libidine since his election in 4613, three years after humanity first entered Aphrodisia. The dynasty ended with King Harold the Mad in the year 5610, a near-thousand-year run. There were a few kings and queens who sat on the throne throughout the centuries, but their dynasties were comparatively short-lived and brutal.

Jeremiah the Rude of the Libidine Dynasty reigned from 5481-5510 (29 years). He was its twenty-eighth ruler, and is often cited to be the start of humanity's decline in Aphrodisia.

In 5487, Jeremiah publicly disrespected the then dwarven king, Isaac Hammerhand at a feast, later known as the Insult of King Jeremiah the Rude. Jeremiah later allowed several major trade treaties to lapse, believing that the human cities were better on their own and needed to be more self-sufficient. While trade between dwarves and humans continued informally between private merchants, the volume of trade goods greatly diminished, as did relations between the two races.

Year 5503 - The human ruler King Jeremiah the Rude made the bold and unprecedented proclamation that all lands within a hundred kilometers of any human settlement belongs exclusively to humans, expelling elves and wildmen who have long been friendly neighbors. Several skirmishes broke out and many humans found themselves being ambushed by stubborn wildmen. Humans ultimately triumphed and contact with the other races become even more rare for the standard human city-dweller.

Jeremiah later allows several major trade treaties to lapse, believing that the human cities were better on their own and needed to be more self-sufficient. While trade between dwarves and humans continues informally between private merchants, the volume of trade goods greatly diminishes, as do relations between the two races.

Year 5503 - The human ruler King Jeremiah the Rude makes the bold and unprecedented proclamation that all lands within a hundred kilometers of any human settlement belongs exclusively to humans, expelling elves and wildmen who have long been friendly neighbors. Several skirmishes break out and many humans find themselves being ambushed by stubborn wildmen, but the humans ultimately triumph and contact with the other races become even more rare for the standard human city-dweller.

King Harold became king in 5600, less than a year after his mother Queen Veronica the Builder's death in 5599. The council was hesitant to crown him, but Harold threatened them, claiming if they didn't give him the throne that he would order them all burned and bathe in their ashes. The council relented and crowned him, then fled the city, worried with good reason he make good on his threat anyway.

In 5608, King Harold sent an emissary to Emperor Felatitius to order one of his demon subjects to vacate a fortress supposedly being built near the human border. Felatitius seduced the emissary and sent him back to Harold as a giggling waif who claims she had legally sold the entire human kingdom to the demons for a single minute of being made love to by Emperor Felatitius himself. Enraged, Harold then sent a regiment to destroy the fortress before it could be completed, only to find that it had already been built at 1/100th scale in the middle of an empty field, a mocking gesture.

Year 5609 - One year prior to the one millennia anniversary of humanity's first arrival into the realm, Harold, now referred to as the mad king, ordered his best assassins to kill the Emperor Felatitius and bring back his head. This attempt failed and the king is instead sent back a handwritten letter from the Emperor, tied in the lead assassin’s sash, and conveying his thanks for sending along such a lively concubine as a millennial gift and requesting that the king join him as well once the difficult work of throwing the celebration had been finished. This, predictably, enraged Harold further.

Year 5610 - Foregoing the advice of his former allies, driven away by the king's own arrogance and bigotry, but worried for his people, King Harold orders the human army to march on the Empire. This unfortunately was just as planned, as Emperor Felatitius sprung his trap, wiping out the human forces with a spell cast the Thirteen Queens. The demons now counterattacked, knowing they could now claim they were simply defending themselves to elves and dwarves paying attention.
The capital fell with hardly a fight and from that day, the humans of the realm have been fleeing in droves as Felatitius has declared open season for any demon looking to bag a few new slaves. With one final act of goodwill, the dwarven clans along the southern coast of Aphrodisia ferry all humans under the age of eighteen and most over forty to Niu Hymn on a massive steamship, the only ship strong enough to withstand the powerful and erratic storms that prevent regular naval passage. The remaining humans are left to travel across Aphrodisia by land.

Line of rulers:

4728-4733 (5 years) - 5th ruler -- Fifth Libidine monarch.

4733-4739 (6 years) - 6th ruler -- Sixth Libidine monarch.

4739-4788 (37 years) - 7th ruler -- Seventh Libidine monarch.

4788-4811 (23 years) - 8th ruler -- Eight Libidine monarch.
4811-4821 (10 years) - 9th ruler -- Ninth Libidine monarch.
King Harold the Mad (ruling from 5599-5610) was the 34th and final human king of the Libidine Dynasty. He was an arrogant, greedy, overconfident, paranoid man and started a war with the Demon Empire, ending in a decisive defeat at the hands of The Thirteen Queens and the following Great Exile.

In 5608, King Harold sends an emissary to Emperor Felatitius to order one of his demon subjects to vacate a fortress supposedly being built near the human border. Felatitius seduces the emissary and sends him back to Harold as a giggling waif who claims she has legally sold the entire human kingdom to the demons for a single minute of being made love to by Emperor Felatitius himself. Enraged, Harold sends a regiment to destroy the fortress before it can be completed only to find that it has already been built, but only at 1/100th scale in the middle of an empty field, a mocking gesture.

Year 5609 - One year prior to the one millennia anniversary of humanity's first arrival into the realm, Harold, now referred to as the mad king, orders his best assassins to kill the Emperor Felatitius and bring back his head. This attempt fails and the king is instead sent back a handwritten letter from the Emperor, tied in the lead assassin’s sash and conveying his thanks for sending along such a lively concubine as a millennial gift and requesting that the king join him as well once the difficult work of throwing the celebration had been finished.

Year 5610 - Foregoing the advice of his former allies, driven away by the king's own arrogance and bigotry, but worried for his people, King Harold orders the human army to march on the Empire. This unfortunately was just as planned, as Emperor Felatitius sprung his trap, wiping out the human forces with a spell by the 13 Queens and counter attacked, now fully protected by the laws of the land for his ‘defensive’ invasion.

Phillos was a sickly boy since birth and inherited the monarchy at age twenty-seven. It was said that he had never left the palace at any point in his life, and while he rarely traveled, he did at times make visits to nearby towns and villages for the fresh air. When he took the throne, he made almost no public appearances so as to not appear incapable, but one of his father's generals, Darold Schulte, claimed Phillos had actually died and sucessfully stormed the castle, killing Phillos in his own bed. Darold Schulte declared himself king and killed anyone who protested, starting the bloody Schulte Dynasty.

After his violent death, Phillos' body was secreted away by loyalists and buried in the Giusburg Catacombs. He was the last Libidine to be buried there before the catacombs were sealed up by the Great Eastern Shake in 5366.

The dynasty ended with King Harold the Mad in the year 5610, a near-thousand-year run. There were a few kings and queens who sat on the throne throughout the centuries, but their dynasties were comparatively short-lived and brutal.

Line of rulers:

4728-4733 (5 years) - 5th ruler -- Fifth Libidine monarch.
4811-4821 (10 years) - 9th ruler -- Ninth Libidine monarch.

4934-5011 (77 years) - 11th ruler -- Queen Emilia the Unending Long-lived Eleventh Libidine monarch.

Line of rulers:

Year 4613-4631 (18 years) - 1st ruler - Gius Libidine is elected the first king. By the end of his reign, humanity was able to stabilize itself and prosper, though he ultimately failed in his original mission to reopen the gate back to Earth.

Queen Jessica the Fool was the 3nd ruler of the Libidine Dynasty from the years 5573-5580 (7 years).

Queen Jessica was a poor ruler, a jealous, paranoid, and proud ruler who believed herself to be a goddess. She was said to be very beautiful by those who looked upon her in her younger days, but this only made her extremely arrogant, and shortly after she became queen, her reign became more chaotic. She rarely took advice from advisors and seemed to make up facts as she saw fit, demanding her court bow down and agree to whatever she saidd.

In the year 5579, Queen Jessica the Fool declared that magic does not exist and forbid human priests from taking lessons from elves in the arcane arts. Three days after the proclamation, a mischievous elf transformed Jessica’s royal robes into silk lingerie during a public speech. She later ordered that her obviously false declaration be stricken from all royal historical records, but her command to forbid the teaching of magic remained and was selectively enforced for several years before being repealed, but by then few elves wanted to teach humans anyway.

Queen Jessica was arrested by her council in 5580 and locked away in a high tower "until she recovered from her affliction." Her sister, Queen Veronica the Builder, was summoned to Giusburg and proclaimed regeant, but after her first year in power when the council was supposed to see if Queen Jessica was fit to return to the throne, everyone just collectively agreed not to.

Jessica lived in obscurity for decades more and was still in her tower at the start of the Great Exile. Nobody knows what her fate was, but most assume she was captured and made a thrall when the demons picked over the depopulated Giusburg, or else starved to death first.

Line of rulers:

Year 4613-4631 (18 years) - 1st ruler - Gius Libidine is elected the first king. By the end of his reign, humanity was able to stabilize itself and prosper, though he ultimately failed in his original mission to reopen the gate back to Earth.

Line of rulers:

Year 4613-4631 (18 years) - 1st ruler - Gius Libidine is elected the first king. By the end of his reign, humanity was able to stabilize itself and prosper, though he ultimately failed in his original mission to reopen the gate back to Earth.

4728-4733 (5 years) - 5th ruler -- Fifth Libidine monarch.

4733-4739 (6 years) - 6th ruler -- Sixth Libidine monarch.

4739-4788 (37 years) - 7th ruler -- Seventh Libidine monarch.

4788-4811 (23 years) - 8th ruler -- Eight Libidine monarch.
4821-4902 (81 years) -- The throne is lost to the Lynbush Dynasty.

The Schulte Dynasty reigned from 5239-5368 (129 years).

The Schulte Dynasty was very warlike one, beginning when Darold Schulte having seized the throne from the 21st ruler of the Libidine Dynasty, killing the sicky King Phillos the Weak in a bloody coup and many rounds of reprisals. During this time, many humans left Giusburg to settle elsewhere in Aphrodisia, fragmenting the human kingdoms and resulting in many local uprisings. This settlement also angered many elves and dwarves, as well as wildpeople, though generally the settlers tried to make peace rather than claim the new lands as their own.

The Schulte Dynasty collapsed in 5368 following a popular uprising lead by both commoners and nobles, unhappy with how the last Schulte queen handled the Great Eastern Shake, attempting to use the disaster to convert a large part of the city into a personal palace and displacing tens of thousands of survivors still scraping by. With the Schulte family ruthelessly executed or exiled, the closest living descendent of the Libidine Dynasty was found and brought back to the throne in the Second Libidine Restoration.
